Block Island Butterfly CreationWhen a butterfly is not around to cheer the weary roadside traveler, on Block Island they create one of spare parts.

Block Islanders have a tendency to display public art that is endearing. One has to slow down, take in the rain-scented honeysuckle, and look around on the island to appreciate what is there.

So it is as we found this butterfly creation at the border of a property. A splash of color on a weathered spile and line in an island nautical expression.

Like the fake lemons once tied to a tree (another Block Island item of yore), this is a wonderfully quirky expression. It's island life, and this butterfly calls us to slow down and pay attention. And it endears us to the island even more.
