Foggy Jamestown Verrazzano BridgeFoggy early morning eastbound summer crossing of the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge

Crossing the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge always evokes memories of the old Jamestown Bridge. Two lanes, grating at the top, and always terrifying on a motorcycle.

When I sailed on the M/V Bay Queen, we would tell passengers to "Look up!" as we passed under the old bridge. This would always evoke some shocked looks from passengers seeing vehicle undercarriages.

Today's Jamestown bridge is sleek and modern. There is no grating and no holes to look down below. But as we drive into the fog, there is still a mystery of what is beyond. It is not terrifying, but it evokes many memories.
