Harvesting Andromeda - Hanging On (Select Image or Title To See In A Larger Format)

Harvesting Andromeda Hanging OnA bee harvesting an Andromeda Bush buds for pollen

Walking outdoors with my camera, I found a bee near our Andromeda bush. The plant itself was an anniversary gift to my wife and me. It began as an ankle-high shrub and now matches my six-foot one-inch height.

This spring, the Andromeda has experienced explosive growth. The tiny flowers cover every visible part of it.

And this spring, the bees have come out. Bees that are as large as my thumb from the interphalangeal joint to tip (and almost as thick). Fuzzy pollen collectors.

It's nice to see the bees harvesting the Andromeda. They are almost at eye level, so busy that they do not take notice of me with my lens before them.
