I love classic styles of workboats and fishing vessels. This is but one example. The hardy work vessel is functional and open. The graceful lines lend to its function.
A powerful stem juts above the high bow. The level of the bow is perfect for splitting open waves and throwing them aside. This keeps the operator safe and dry.
The sheerline comes from the need to have a lower middle and stern for working and hauling. In this case, a winch rigged on the console says that they are hauling traps with this boat.
This boat carries its width to its stern and transom. This gives it "wide shoulders" and support as items come up over the size in working. This allows work to occur without the vessel tipping a great deal.

This is why the engineering term for designing vessels is "Naval Architecture". This fishing boat, workboat, shows how the form and the function do not follow, but build on one another.
Add in a windy, cloudy day with an outbound (ebbing) tide. Combine this with a workboat cabled in Dutch Harbor. It is a wonderful Rhode Island scene (or a maritime scene welcome anywhere). Workboats that enhance the scenic environment.
