Sailing on excursion boats and ferries, I developed the habit of turning around from time to time. The concept was to find out what action was occurring around the vessel. It was a safety matter and good seamanship and ship handling. To be succinct, the habit developed and honed my awareness of my surroundings.

This development of awareness has made me more sensitive to transition points. These transition points are temporal and physical. I turn around and see where I have been and what is around me as I walk. I observe the air and the smells that show changes in weather and seasons.

In these scenes at Black Point and Scarborough Beach, we are observing transitions. This is the area where the beach becomes a shoreline hiking trail. While covered in snow, the light and even the colors are harbingers of the coming springtime. It's a view that is often seen, often unobserved and offers wisdom in showing us things past and things to come.
