It’s said that Middlebury got its name because of its position halfway between New Haven and Salisbury.This small New England town received its charter in November of 1761, along with three other cities; Salisbury, New Haven, and Cornwall. Middlebury College was founded in 1800, and by 1830 Middlebury was the second largest town in Vermont.
