I am a detailed person. I am concerned about the type of bird I am looking at, the landmark, the timing of the light, and the name of the rock. Those are the details that of normal concern for me.
Other times, I am concerned with the mood. I become reflective and take in the entire scene. The late daylight plays on the waves as the surfers come to shore. The clouds illuminated by the setting sun creating a pleasant if intospective mood. The birds seeking their sustenance on the shore as the lights dim. The lighthouse beacon shines in soft focus. This is contemplative. This is pleasant. This is a time to share with someone special and the details are not that important.
The technical term for these photos would be "Soft Focus". I prefer to think of the scene as being "Sotto Voce". A scene that whispers what it's about but lets you enjoy its presence. It's why we go to the shore. To listen for a still, small voice and know...
